Stonewall showcases top equality employers

Stonewall has called on British employers to join its annual Workplace Equality Index (WEI) in 2008, as it highlights the UK's top equality employers for 2007.
The gay rights campaign group placed chip maker IBM as the top employer for gay and lesbian workers in Britain, followed by Staffordshire Police, which came out top in 2006, Personnel Today reports.
In third place, the Greater London Authority (GLA) and Manchester City Council were commended for their commitment to equality and diversity, but Stonewall criticised the shortage of private sector organisations in the list (28 out of 100).
Stonewall held its annual Diversity Champion Seminar at the end of July and praised organisations such as JP Morgan and Transport for London (TfL) for implementing and monitoring well ordered diversity policies.
The organisation has launched the questionnaire for its 2008 WEI, which uses Object Planet's Opinio online survey software, in order to showcase Britain's top employers for gay people and companies are being urged to take part before the deadline on September 21st 2007.
Stonewall recently teamed up with the General Medical Council (GMC) to tackle concerns about the ways in which doctors in Britain respond to the health needs of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community.
