Energy giant outlines ambitious diversity pla

British energy service provider RWE Npower has announced that it is planning to boost the diversity of its worforce in the UK through a series of initiatives.
Under the company's plans, a series of strict targets for improving diversity and raising awareness among its employees have been set, Personnel Today reports.
Npower has produced a video, Valuing Difference, as part of special training schemes for senior managers, along with posters, e-learning packages and other information. The company is taking new age discrimination legislation seriously and has adjusted its training materials to reflect the new rules.
Unveiled as part of Npower's 2007 corporate responsibility report, the new diversity targets cover plans to increase the number of women working for the company, which operates in a traditionally male-dominated field.
Just 15 per cent of the Npower senior management team is currently female, while only five per cent comes from black or minority ethnic groups.
Npower is ensuring that its recruitment suppliers are aware of the new targets and has pledged to ensure that minority ethnic and female applicants are represented in interviews and graduate schemes in the future.
