Stonewall welcomes Google as 300th Diversity

Stonewall welcomes Google as 300th Diversity

Stonewall has announced that search giant Google has signed up as the 300th member of its Diversity Champions programme.

The gay rights organisation has created the scheme to provide employers with information and guidance about the recruitment and retention of lesbian and gay staff.

Members of the scheme agree to promote good practice around sexual orientation and Stonewall wants to transform workplaces across the UK into "somewhere where lesbian and gay people can be themselves".

A reception was held by Stonewall, hosted by Merrill Lynch at their London Financial Centre, attended by representatives of the 300 member organisations.

Will Hutton, chief executive of the Work Foundation, said: "Stonewall have been remarkable agents of change in the UK workplace, a huge catalyst for change. They've really helped transform the way that organisations view gay people at work."

Members of Diversity Champions programme include IBM, the Royal Navy, Kier Building Maintenance, Barclays and Transport for London (TfL).
